Wet Riser

What is the difference between a Dry & Wet Riser.

Similarly to dry risers, wet risers are installed in buildings for the purpose of saving lives and protecting buildings in cases of fire emergencies. They are a vital source for firefighting reasons, enabling them to gain access to a large amount of water throughout tall buildings.

Acting slightly differently to dry risers, wet risers have installed on buildings above 50 metres. They are constantly charged with pressurised water from an in-house pump, with landing valves installed at specific locations on each floor. This allows for a high-pressure flow of water to be received on the upper floors of large buildings, ultimately aiding and assisting firefighters tackling a blaze high up.

Here at TMW Dry Risers we are able to work closely with you in order to supply, install, maintain and test wet riser systems, ensuring the safety of your building and those inside it are kept as high as possible. We work across buildings within the UK, Ireland and Scotland and have already built up a prestige reputation through the hundreds of projects already carried out.

Wet risers are connected to an automatic water supply and are designed to supply 1,500 litres per minute for 45 minutes as a minimum; proving how impressive and important they are. For the assistance of the fire brigade, wet riser tanks are additionally fitted with automatic warning systems which present their water level, ultimately enabling them to see when the tank is empty or over-filled.

At TMW Dry Risers, we pride ourselves on stringently following all appropriate legislations and guidelines, complying fully with the current British Standard BS9990 2015. This enables our customers to have full confidence in the service we provide as we can reassure a safe, proper and excellent service will be carried out for every project we undertake. We pride ourselves on ensuring all of our customers are filled in on the works we are carrying out, making sure everyone knows what is going on and why it is in their best interests.

Carried out in accordance to the relevant legislations, strictly following British Standards 9990:2015, all of our commissioning test equipment is fully certified and the service we carry out pays particularly attention to detail when it comes to commissioning pre test procedures, static pressure tests and optional flow rate tests.

We will appropriately carry out initial system inspections and complete an initial water flush through the system; carefully abiding by the guidelines in accordance with BS9990:2015. We will then carry out pressure tests, ensuring the system is charged with water and pressurised correctly for the test. Whilst completing this, any leaks will be checked around the pipework and valves, and repaired accordingly. Once we have finished the testing, the dry riser system will be drained and left ready to use. We can also complete a flow rate test; however, this is optional.

On successful completion of our commission test, where systems are found to comply with the relevant standards, a Certificate of Conformity will be issued.
